The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic due to the Coronavirus has, without hyperbole, shut down industrial units across the board. In the absence of a vaccine or known cure, the government has had no choice but to issue directions to curtail its spread by initiating a lockdown.

This has caused some concern to businesses who find themselves without revenue but with a large workforce. Due to the dampened economic productivity during this lockdown period, there are concerns as to how much demand will pick up even after it is over. Needless to say, businesses are making attempts to rationalize their workforces during this time. There has also been some confusion as to the effect of some circulars and notifications issued by the Government which purport to restrict an employer's rights during these times.
