Areas of Practice
Litigation - civil & Arbitration
By most metrics, India is one of the most litigious nations. Courts in India function under a strict code of procedures. It has been my endevour to assist clients in navigating these waters with an aim towards resolving their civil disputes with as little acrimony as possible. I also represent clients in arbitrations, both in India and internationally.
Corporate Insolvency
The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, ushered in a new era in the resolution of stressed assets. If done properly, this legislation can be a boon for corporations facing hard times. I advise my clients in how best to take advantage of this legislation and protect their rights.
Litigation - Intellectual Property
At the cross-section of creativity and commerce lies the field of Intellectual Property Law. A good idea can quickly turn into a headache if not protected adequately. I assist my clients in protecting their brand equity as well as their intellectual output - whether it be in the field of literary or artistic works, or even business innovations.
IT, Internet and tech law
The growth of the internet as a tool for business has far outstripped the pace with which the law has developed in this field. Further, with regimes such as the GDPR, it is imperative for organizations to remain up to date and compliant. I advise my clients on these aspects, including on how best to protect the privacy of their customers
Litigation - Corporate
The field of corporate litigation has assumed great significance in recent times. With the advent of the National Company Law Tribunal, we now a specialized tribunal dealing with corporate disputes. I assist my clients in protecting their rights vis-a-vis their companies. I also assist my clients in obtaining approval for their mergers and amalgamations.
Competition law
The Indian anti-trust and competition control regime has, since the Competition Act, 2002, was brought into force, become definite and rigorous. I assist my clients with understanding how the legislation affects their business and its growth.
Keeping in mind the emerging economic crisis, the government has decided to ease the nationwide lockdown and to allow some industries to resume operations. In this article I analyse the sectors that have been opened up as well as the restrictions and preconditions prescribed. However, I also note that the preconditions may just prove to be a deal breaker to MSMEs and smaller businesses.
